Spotlight: Renee Mundy Mashburn and Renee’s Embroidery

Renee Mundy began her business, located in the heart of her home Central Illinois, 10 years ago with a one-needle embroidery machine. She began as a seamstress and quilter, but today Renee’s Embroidery uses more than four industrial multi-needle embroidery machines to produce her signature items: fun, one of a kind keepsake gifts in the form of adorable stuffed animals that she personalizes to the customer’s order. Renee utilizes stuffed cubbies and dumble elephants and decorates them with embroidered inscriptions, names, birth information, and more. Soon, Renee will be adding hand made, personalized Minky Blankets to her offerings.

As a mother of five and grandmother of ten, Renee decided to specialize in washable stuffed animals because of the popularity of baby items, and as Renee says, “Children love a stuffed animal that is personalized and all their own”.  Renee is thankful for her large family and her husband, who all support her in her endeavors.

Renee describes herself as a “hardworking wife and mother”. She is efficient in sales and talented at “putting love into words”. She loves a challenge, and believes in responding quickly to emails or other inquiries on her website. She processes her orders efficiently, producing the custom embroidered gifts in about three weeks from the time of order (depending how many orders she has in-house). She provides the customer a proof of the tailor-made embroidery in one to two weeks.

Renee receives the most satisfaction in knowing that a child is happy with the gift she created for them. As she says, “When I receive the actual photo of the child holding his or her stuffed animal” it makes her very happy. And she loves knowing that she has been “filling the arms of children with these soft plush toys all over the world.”

One of Renee’s biggest challenges in starting her business was teaching herself how to use the digitizing software for her computerized embroidery machines. Since she didn’t have time to attend classes, she had to figure out the techniques for herself. Recently, though, she has been furthering her education by attending conventions and retreats to keep up-to-date with the ever-changing technology, and increase her knowledge. She most recently attended a 3 day retreat to a Bernina Education vacation.
